it's not like i didn't know my country was crazy
it was crazy the way an exposed nerve is agitated
when you zap it with an electrical charge
so yes, i knew we were strange
but everybody was strange
so not a big deal
then, i don't know
about a week ago
it struck me:
we are a nation where millions of people
believe that, after they die, they will float up into an invisible
mansion in the sky
then i thought that maybe we're not crazy
maybe we are balloonists
who've lost their balloons
