Too fast upon the shore

a report from nowhere:

nothing left to move us
what can we build with those broken ships?
true, we sailed together, and landed
and stood on the land like we belonged
but we didn't
not really

our voyage was too fast
we arrived too soon
we needed a much longer song
to learn what the lyrics meant
to go deeper into ourselves
we were children with knives and guns
we were killers with a golden lord

maybe, if the voyage wasn't so fast
we could have learned more about love
about fairness
about decency
about the birds
and the wolves
and the wind--all the winds of the world

we got here too fast
and children are hungry
and poor people die slaughtered
and many wring their hands
and feel unloved

maybe, if we took our time
we would have recognized ourselves
in everyone we saw
and found more lessons than we brought

This requires reflection to an uncommon degree, and frankly we have too many forms of electronics to keep us distracted.

Oh well ...
