Better Days

she was thinking about her future
wondering if it mattered, wondering if she shattered
all the bones in her legs

she was thinking of better days
better days when he would listen
when the laughter would surround her
when the river would take them round the bend
and there was still a place called home

she began climbing out of the wreckage
she felt like forty miners, leaving from the coal mine
at the end of day

she fell to the side of the road
and found him screaming murder, she told him to stay alive
she was thinking of better days
but the sun don't shine at night
the sun don't shine at night

she was thinking of better days
better days when he would listen
when the laughter would surround her
when the river would take them round the bend
and there was still a place called home

he took his last breath while sirens sang of trouble
he vanished in the forest deep
deep beyond our lives
 ain't nobody gonna find him
just a body at the coroner
she was thinking of better days

the sun don't shine at night
the sun don't shine at night
the sun don't shine at night
she was thinking of better days
