The Girl in the Tree

i hear a lot of things in the news
people dying, people singing the blues
men in suits all running the show
what they do, it's best you don't know

take a walk in the evening air
too soon for June bugs, too soon for the fair
took a turn on a one lane road
felt a chill and the night turned cold

little bicycle with pink handle bars
wheels are still beneath the stars
how dear god, can such things be
i saw the girl
i saw the girl in the tree

oh, my god
oh, oh, oh, my god
someone is hanging
she's the girl in the tree

she is still, the rope is frayed
too soon a price to be paid
at the end of a one lane road
at the end of the road

police tape goes across the grass
now there are cameras and natural gas
you at home, do you want to know more
first this ad for a brand new store

oh, my god
oh, oh, oh, my god
someone is hanging
she's the girl in the tree

where do dreams go when we die
do marionettes ever wonder why?
she is hanging at the end of the rope
ain't no use crying when there is no hope

i walked all night and into the day
i was a ghost without a grave
dear god, how can such things be
i saw the girl
i saw the girl in the tree

oh, my god
oh, my god
oh, my god
