One Vast Electric Mind

here at the end of time
one vast electric mind
seizures and spasms in the dark
it is an ancient rite
it is the birth of life
in images both grand and stark
i know these rivulets
will soon give rivers fits
and then we're back on Noah's ark
the kerosene is clean
we pour it on the beams
and strike a match to strike a spark

time will tell if the gods have all disappeared
place the coins on your eyes and genuflect your fears
oddly

the trees are ancient things
no words for what they sing
we come at them with our chainsaws
they are the source of life
yet still we plunge the knife
we write the rules, we are the law
when you've been ripped apart
you clutch your beating heart
served just like sushi: very raw
after the lights have dimmed
no more is left of him
upon a chain you wear his paw

time will tell if the gods have all disappeared
place the coins on your eyes and genuflect your fears
oddly

please do not speak of this
just shed your skin and hiss
and snake your way back into town
i will but bite my tongue
and when at last i'm hung
i will but merrily fall down
and when they bury me
on a cliff above the sea
i will gladden at the sound
waves crashing at the shore
i could not ask for more
sleeping inside this holy ground

time will tell if the gods have all disappeared
place the coins on your eyes and genuflect your fears
oddly

here at the end of time
one vast electric mind
seizures and spasms in the dark
it is an ancient rite
it is the birth of life
in images both grand and stark
