I met Jerry Dunphy once, when I was a kid. It was a friend's birthday party. My friend's father owned a bowling alley, and also a friend of the locally famous newscaster. He looked just like he did on the TV machine.
An affable, non-threatening sort of fellow...and his "From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California, good evening" lead-in to the news was a pleasant way to start off the news.
