Ode to Jerry Dunphy

l.a.'s on fire again
the hills in flame again
you know just where you've been
l.a.'s on fire again

have you seen fire dance
like a tango from a lost romance
take a dive or take a chance
have you seen fire dance

from the desert to the endless sea
lay the ruins of a charcoal queen
we camped in heaven, didn't pay the fee
from the desert to the endless sea

Fires look bad right now. Hope the firefighters can keep 'em off Mt. Wilson.

I met Jerry Dunphy once, when I was a kid. It was a friend's birthday party. My friend's father owned a bowling alley, and also a friend of the locally famous newscaster. He looked just like he did on the TV machine.

Here's a link to Jerry Dunphy interviewing the Carpenters.

An affable, non-threatening sort of fellow...and his "From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California, good evening" lead-in to the news was a pleasant way to start off the news.
