A Poem for Children

when you ran down the street
you ran like a monkey with yellow feet
you sang a loud song that bumped the sky
you did it once and you barely tried
at all

when you swam in the lake
you splashed like a stone thrown for its own sake
you held in your air and became a fish
you did all this and didn't spend your wishes
none at all

jump like a kangaroo
charge like a bull
hold your belly
when it's really full
ride your bicycle
across the earth
did you know that your birth came from the earth?
did you know?

when you fell on the ground
you looked everywhere, you looked around
did anyone notice, did anyone see
were there any eyes watching from the trees
any at all

everyone is right here
all over paradise it's laughter you hear
all over paradise, sun and the singing moon
do you know any words to a paradise tune
any at all?

jump like a kangaroo
charge like a bull
hold your belly
when it's really full
ride your bicycle
across the earth
did you know that your birth came from the earth?
did you know?

when you ran down the street
you ran like a monkey with yellow feet
you sang a loud song that bumped the sky
you did it once and you barely tried
at all

when you swam in the lake
you splashed like a stone thrown for its own sake
you held in your air and became a fish
you did all this and didn't spend your wishes
none at all

jump like a kangaroo
charge like a bull
hold your belly
when it's really full
ride your bicycle
across the earth
did you know that your birth came from the earth?
did you know?
