SAVE AMERICA BLUES

Mr. Rove and Mr. Libby
Tried to save America
Oh, Mr. Rove and Mr. Libby
Tried to save America

Just like Colonel Kurtz
Tried to save Cambodia

Fox is in the henhouse
Fixin' to make hisself a stew
Yeah, fox is in the henhouse
Fixin' to make hisself a stew

It's four parts chickenhawk
One part "how do you do?"

(chorus)
Freedom! Freedom!
The law holdin' us down!
Oh, Freedom! Freedom!
The law holdin' us down!
Got ourselves a plug nickel
To drop a dime on every clown
Freedom! Freedom!
The law holdin' us down!
If you are an agent
You best get on out of town

Mr. Rove and Mr. Libby
Loyal to a fault
Ooh, Mr. Rove and Mr. Libby
They are loyal to a fault

They safeguard the Constitution
Got it locked up in a vault

Heard them early in the morning
Rootin' around in my trash can
Yeah, I heard them early in the morning
Rootin' around in my trash can

When you ain't got no ethics
You got to get them where you can

(chorus)
Freedom! Freedom!
The law holdin' us down!
Oh, Freedom! Freedom!
The law holdin' us down!
Got ourselves a plug nickel
To drop a dime on every clown
Freedom! Freedom!
The law holdin' us down!
If you are an agent
You best get on out of town

Gee, wonder why the jivester wrote a blues song today?

Last night a good and bluesy friend of mine took me to the Santa Monica Pier where we listened to a free outdoor concert: The Chicago Blues Reunion. They are playing tonight (July 22nd) at Amoeba Records in Hollywood (7:00?), also a free concert. The band has a a freight train of blues cred and a new CD and DVD out, so if you like the blues (and can get somebody to bring the volume down a little) check them out! Barry Goldberg on keyboards was a blast, Corky Siegel plays a pathological harp, Harvey Mandel went "out there" on lead guitar. Nick "The Greek" Gravenites was the excellent elder statesman, and Sam Lay was the most excellent elder Hoochie Coochie Man: see these guys before Father Time yanks their chains too hard! (Don't let me forget Rick Reed on bass, Tracy Nelson "The Epiglottis Goddess", Gary Mallaber, Zach Wagner et al).

Go on now. Git!
