IT'S A PRETTY SWEET RIDE

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Rainbow pop on a sunny day
Cool grass, sitting in the shade
Think I’ll lay down for awhile
You gave me love, you gave me a smile

Went for a drive in Griffith Park
Life’s so easy when you don’t bark
Children laughing as they ride
It’s pretty sweet, it’s a pretty sweet ride

(chorus)
Can’t just wait for the bad days
Can’t just wait for all the sad days too
You have come to let me go
Just want to let you know
It’s okay
Tell China that I love her
And tell my folks I’m not afraid
Think of me this winter
And be brave

Who wants to sing to me today?
Who wants to come outside and play?
Who will let me kiss them on the face?
Why wait for heaven when heaven’s just another place?

I know the lady has come
To send me on my way
I will fall asleep
I will fall away

Rainbow pop on a sunny day
Cool grass, sitting in the shade
Think I’ll lay down for awhile
You gave me love, you gave me a smile

Went for a drive in Griffith Park
Life’s so easy when you don’t bark
Children laughing as they ride

And tell my folks I’m not afraid
Think of me this winter

The hardest thing in the whole damn world...to love so much and say goodbye. There better be a rainbow bridge.

I still love every word you write and these words have tears trailing down my face and landing on my keyboard. In the not so distant future I may have to come back and read this again while applying it to my own heart. The hardest thing in the world is to love them enough to let them go. I've had to do it before and I'll have to do it again, but the part in the middle is what it's all about. That's the good part and the good years.

Thank you for saying it so sweetly

Thanks for all the kind words. Cody and China came to us late in their lives: their previous owners were going to take them directly to the pound (once they discovered that Cody was suffering from rapid weight loss). We took them in, found a foster couple (we currently have four dogs and seven cats), and took care of all the veterinary fees. Cody was diagnosed with lymphoma--he was given prednisone to shrink the mass (and help him with his appetite). He had a fairly idyllic month before it became obvious it was his time. We had a mobile vet come out to a friend's house, and in the cool shade of a beautiful garden Cody, after eating cheese and chocolate and his earlier frozen treats, he was released from his life. We are not heros, just people who love dogs and try to help them when we can.

p.s. Cody is with a new foster-mother in a mountain community north of Los Angeles. So far so good.

Told, man. You do have a way.
Oh jeebus.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Animals leaving hurts more than people leaving, because even when they goof up, animals can only love you.

That was one lucky dog.
