A Poem for Children

when you ran down the street
you ran like a monkey with yellow feet
you sang a loud song that bumped the sky
you did it once and you barely tried
at all

when you swam in the lake
you splashed like a stone thrown for its own sake
you held in your air and became a fish
you did all this and didn't spend your wishes
none at all

jump like a kangaroo
charge like a bull
hold your belly
when it's really full
ride your bicycle
across the earth
did you know that your birth came from the earth?
did you know?

when you fell on the ground
you looked everywhere, you looked around
did anyone notice, did anyone see
were there any eyes watching from the trees
any at all

everyone is right here
all over paradise it's laughter you hear
all over paradise, sun and the singing moon
do you know any words to a paradise tune
any at all?

jump like a kangaroo
charge like a bull
hold your belly
when it's really full
ride your bicycle
across the earth
did you know that your birth came from the earth?
did you know?

when you ran down the street
you ran like a monkey with yellow feet
you sang a loud song that bumped the sky
you did it once and you barely tried
at all

when you swam in the lake
you splashed like a stone thrown for its own sake
you held in your air and became a fish
you did all this and didn't spend your wishes
none at all

jump like a kangaroo
charge like a bull
hold your belly
when it's really full
ride your bicycle
across the earth
did you know that your birth came from the earth?
did you know?

Random Poem

I've come to fix your childhood
I heard it had a bunch of leaks
and keeps you up at night

I've come to fix your childhood
the neighbors have been complaining
about the awful racket

I've come to fix your childhood
the country is in ruins
and needs the space

I've come to fix your childhood
I have tools in my truck:
hammer
saw
wrench
a drill stolen by a troll
shovel
measuring tape
a lighter used to illuminate monsters
scissors
computer
small radio
the last golden bicycle
a cheap plastic ring made by god
one hour of rain
chewing gum

I've come to fix your childhood
so you can grow old and die as an adult

I've come to fix your childhood
but nobody's home

I'll come back some other time
we'll talk about summer
and then I'll get right to work

i saw Obama walk into a bank

i saw Obama, i saw Obama
i saw Obama walk into a bank
i thought, momma, oh momma
dear momma, is he in the tank?

not a commie, not a commie
too many friends workin' for the bank
i said, baby, oh baby
how long before he's pullin' rank?

one percenters hogging plenty
one percenters got an ass as big as life
they got the money, they keep it honey
try to take it they will cut you with a knife

oh, yeah
oh, yeah
oh, yeah
cut you with a knife
they got the money
they keep it honey
try to take it they will cut you with a knife

i saw Obama, i saw Obama
i saw Obama walk into a bank
i thought, momma, oh momma
what's he doing at the bank?

funny faces, off to the races
trading places but the game remains the same
no caped crusader, and no day trader
he is a danger, got the skinny on the game

he's got a marker, no carny barker
could it be starker, the money boys are wild
step right up sir, win a stuffed bear
stick around, we've got it all on file

one percenters hogging plenty
one percenters got an ass as big as life
they got the money, they keep it honey
try to take it they will cut you with a knife

oh, yeah
oh, yeah
oh, yeah
cut you with a knife
they got the money
they keep it honey
try to take it they will cut you with a knife

Paging Ron Paul! Paging Ron Paul!

questions are pesky, unkind
they expose all our nerves to the grind
in the marketplace grand
sits the invisible hand

go ask it why we're all in this bind

Boggity Bog

Image taken just south of the Willamette River, adjacent to the Champoeg State Heritage Area in Oregon. Donna and I walked the dogs on a bike path--it being around 2:00 on a late winter weekday we had the path to ourselves. Nice, that.

Near the path stood this small thicket of woods. Contrasts. Shadows. Light and dark. Consent of the Tao.

Goodnight Special Hector

Born June 14th, 1994 (estimated)
Died February 14th, 2009

good night, you occasionally psychotic prince
may flights of angels attend thee to thy rest
and may the heavenly host avoid stepping upon you
lest you sink your fangs too deeply into their flesh

donna loved you always

at the end of his time
even i stroked his fur
and whispered love eternal
into his ears

donna's tears washed clean
his last window on the world

Your Sunday Sermon

I saw Monty Python's Life Of Brian when it came out in the late 1970s, and laughed heartily during the viewing. Afterwards, I summoned the anti-Christ and we went dancing beneath the Chthonic rays of a blood-red full moon...no, wait, that's wrong. I think I went home and had dinner (my memory gets awfully dramatic when it's not properly reigned in).
